Disney Prince Dad Bracket: Round 1 Results

Here are the results of the first round of voting in our Disney Princess Dad Bracket. Since there were 2 Aarons Aaron Travis is referenced as Aaron T and Aaron Sharp (me) is referred to as Aaron S. Remember that opinions expressed are those of the dad making them, not Sharpology, or even their precious little princess-loving daughters.
Fa Zhou vs James (Fa Zhou wins 3-2)

Fa Zhou wimped out and let his daughter go to war for him?!?!? James would have to be a pretty big dud to lose to that.

Fa Zhou hero quote - "The greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter." I mean, c’mon...

This really is the marquee match up for me. These are easily the strongest and best dads in the bracket. (It's a shame the bracket master did such a poor job seeding the dads.)* Both dads are distinguished veterans. Both dads have raised strong independent daughters. Both dads have legacies of love. I give the slight edge to Fa Zhou because we see more of his parenting in the film. I don't see anyone stopping Fa Zhou's inexorable march to victory.

James, for the Princess and the Frog, owned a restaurant in New Orleans and Cajun food is a winner so James is a winner in my book.

This is by far the toughest first round matchup. I really want to go with James. He won a Distinguished Service Cross and probably died in World War 1. A war hero whose daughter was a strong independent woman checks all the boxes. BUT I think the nod will have to go to Fa Zhou who was also a military veteran himself. Mulan obviously loves her dad, so much so that she goes to war to protect him. Fa Zhou wins this one, but man do I hate to see James lose.
Maurice vs King Stefan (Maurice wins 4-1)

A lot of people thought Maurice had a few screws loose, but Stefan sent his daughter away to live with fairies?!?!? Plus, if Shark Tank would have been around back then, Maurice would have had some pretty serious VC backing. Maurice hands down.

Maurice - He means well, he’s loving, and he’s befuddled, like me.

King Stefan in a landslide. Maurice needed his daughter in order to make something useful of himself. Failed inventor, overall dweeb. On the other hand, King Stefan stood tall against Maleficent.

I don't remember much about King Stephan from Sleeping Beauty, but Maurice was an inventor and I like technology (I realize this is the same logic as my mom picking football games based on the school mascots).

Maurice was the original creator of Sharper Image, and his daughter loved books. He was a bit of a bumbler, but at least he didn’t come up with a completely brain-dead plan to save his daughter like King Stefan. This one goes to Maurice.
Chief Powhatan vs Cinderella’s Dad (Chief Powhatan wins 3-2)

A lot of people would say Cinderella’s dad was a poor judge of character, but Powhatan names his daughter “Ill-behaved-child” in Algonquian. Cinderella’s Dad for sure.

Cinderella’s dad - Loved his daughter like crazy. Admittedly made a poor choice of a second wife, but I can’t paint with all the colors of the wind, so I’m sticking with him.

Chief P wins easily. Cinderella's dad looks like he's 1/64th a good guy. More to the point, he has horrible taste in women and no real love for Cinderella. What kind of father allows his daughter to become a servant in the house? Chief P, on the other hand, created the Powhatan Confederacy and fought for his land.

I'm going with the Chief mainly because Cinderella's Dad was a tool: he married the poster child for wicked stepmothers everywhere.

Cinderella’s dad married a woman who named her cat Lucifer. How bad is your decision-making paradigm that you pick our a stepmom for your daughter who is naming pets after the Prince of Darkness? Lucifer. She named a cat Lucifer. How bad were his prospects that just rolling the dice as a single father wasn’t the choice here? Powhatan wins this and it isn’t even close.
Snow White’s Dad vs Triton (Triton 5-0)

In a bit of an upset I’m picking Triton here. I’m DQing “Snow White’s Dad” for plagiarism. Think about it, father marries jealous stepmother and then dies? Sounds a lot like Cinderella’s Dad to me. Sorry man - that storyline is already taken. And we never even got a photo of you. Or maybe Snow White’s Dad and Cinderella’s Dad are actually the same person? Think about it - we never see them at the same place together. Either way, Triton wins by DQ.

This is easy. It looks like Snow White's dad is in witness protection or in an embassy for leaking government secrets. No picture, no vote. Triton wins easily for looking most like my physique. He'll run into some problems in later rounds for his overprotective parenting but for now, he blows Edward Snowden-White out of the water.

Snow White's Dad must not have been around a lot since we don't even have a picture of him. Plus, King Triton was ripped and had a trident, so he had that going for him. Triton into the next round.

I think we have to consider the possibility that Snow White didn’t have a father and the midichlorians were responsible for her birth. Her dad is that invisible. Triton isn’t a brilliant or effective dad, but he benefits from an easy first-round matchup and gets the win.
*Mark’s churlishness is probably residual bitterness over the time I froze his roster in fantasy football after he tried to cut his whole team when he missed the playoffs. I still love him though.
