The Dreams of Pregnancy

I’d like to think that the people that read my writing are generally an above-average lot. Is this egotistical on my part? Certainly, but I still like to believe it, and if you are reading this then you have a vested interest in perpetuating this idea. Having said that, perhaps there are a few things that even my readers are not aware of, such as Couvade Syndrome.

For those that do not know Couvade Syndrome is a condition that affects men whose wives are pregnant. When suffering from Couvade Syndrome a father-to-be experiences pregnancy symptoms. The symptoms most often cited are weight gain, nausea, insomnia, and mood swings. I cannot speak to those symptoms, but I have to say that that as we near the due date for Sharp Baby Quattro I believe that I am experiencing one typical symptom of pregnancy – vivid and incredibly strange dreams.

It has been happening a lot lately. A couple of nights ago I dreamed that me and some associates were robbing a bank. We robbed the bank by walking into the bank, telling everyone this was a robbery, hacking their network, and uploading some files to Dropbox. Somehow this meant we had stolen $170,000. After the robbery I was overcome by stress because I couldn’t believe I had agreed to do this. I was absolutely certain, due largely to the fact that we didn’t wear masks or gloves, that I was going to be caught, and that I would be arrested at the hospital while my wife was in labor. Thankfully I woke up before I was arrested. What a relief.

Possibly the oddest dream of them all involved me meeting Jimmy Smits. In my dream I met the man who played Matt Santos, but when I was introduced I called him Rik. Later in the dream I realized I had gotten my Smits messed up and had to go apologize to Jimmy for calling him Rik. To his credit Jimmy seemed to understand. Maybe they two are confused for one another more than you would think.

Now if I could just find some chocolate around here.
