What Are You Afraid Of?
Last Sunday during our family Bible study time we talked about Genesis 12:10-20 and how Abram started making bad decisions when he let fear override his trust in God. It was a good discussion and the three older Sharpnaodes are old enough to relate to trusting God when you are afraid.*
As part of the discussion I asked the group what are some things that make them scared. Immediately the smart aleck Wonder Woman chimed in with heights because she knows I’m not a fan of high places.** After we got past my lovely wife’s obvious attempt to derail this most spiritual of conversations the four-year-old Fashionista listed lions and tigers. I naturally responded, “And bears. O my!”
The nine-year-old Zoologist was too busy still cackling about my disdaid for heights so I skipped him and asked the seven-year-old Ballerina what she is scared of.
Her answer?
Orcs.
That’s my girl.***
*The 3yo Slugger doesn’t do much participating in our family worship, except occasionally demanding we sing Baby Shark.
**For the record I am not afraid of heights. I am afraid of falling long distances and smacking the ground.
***I’ve said elsewhere on this website that “By the time they leave the house my kids will be quoting Tolkien, or it will be a major failure on my part as a father.” I think I’m well on my way to success.
